The best Portuguese Anki decks, checked 13 October 2026
Pick your variety first. For European Portuguese, install the 2026 revision of the Portuguese Phrase Book, which has human audio on every phrase; for Brazilian, start with Speaking Brazilian School and add Portuguese Sentences with Audio. If you’d rather make cards from your own lessons, see Portuguese flashcards.
Two decks promise 3,000 words between them and hold 44
One Portuguese deck on AnkiWeb is called Learn Portuguese: 1000 Key Words with Audio & Context. Another is called Master 2000 Portuguese Words & Sentences with Audio. Each holds 22 notes.
They have the same file size, 0.52MB, the same 42 audio files and the same update date, 1 September 2024. Both descriptions open the same way: “Buy my full deck on this link”, and both link to the same shop page.
The titles describe the paid product, and the pages hold a free taster of it. If you search AnkiWeb for Portuguese and sort by what sounds biggest, these are what you’ll find, so read the note count before you download anything.
Which accent you hear matters more than which words
Portuguese has 2 standard varieties, European and Brazilian, and they sound different enough that a learner trained on one often struggles with the other at first. A word list barely changes between them. The audio does.
So the first thing I read on every deck page was whether the author says which accent you’ll hear. Then the usual 4: the update date, the real note count, the audio file count and the votes.
AnkiWeb publishes no download figures, so I couldn’t sort by popularity. Votes are small for Portuguese: the best-voted deck here has 37.
Twelve free Portuguese decks, read on 13 October 2026
European learners do well here, which is unusual. The 2026 phrase book says in writing that a person recorded every phrase, and its author revised it in August 2026. None of the 9 free French decks I read says that much about its audio. The same author revised the nouns and verbs lists on the same day.
Brazilian learners do worse. I couldn’t find a free deck that is recent, has audio, and says on its page that the audio is Brazilian. Speaking Brazilian School is clearly Brazilian but silent. Portuguese Sentences with Audio is mostly Brazilian, by its author’s own ear, and 13 years old.
The 2026 frequency deck is the trap for a Brazilian learner. It’s fresh and well built, and its audio is generated in a European accent unless a word’s meaning differs between the two.
Should you pay for a Portuguese deck?
Probably not, unless you’re Brazilian-track and want audio, or you want a graded path.
Language Atlas sells a Portuguese bundle of 8,818 flashcards in 32 chapters and 106 lessons, in “both a European and Brazilian version”. On 13 October 2026 its page showed €149.99 struck through to €99.99, with a 14-day money-back guarantee. It claims “over 300 downloads and only 5-star reviews”, in a sentence that ends “the best German Anki Decks!”, which tells you the page was copied from another language and not quite finished.
It gives hours to each level: 30 to 40 for A1, then 80 to 100, 180 to 200 and 280 to 325 cumulative for A2, B1 and B2. The State Department’s page puts Portuguese at 24 weeks and 552 class hours, plus 17 hours of self-study a week on top. I’d read the seller’s B2 figure as a floor.
So the buyer is a Brazilian-track learner who wants audio in their accent and a set order, and will pay €99.99 for it. A European-track beginner should take the free phrase book first.
The deck is free; the reviews aren’t
Anki costs nothing on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android or the web. AnkiMobile on iPhone and iPad is US$24.99 once, which I read on the App Store on 13 October 2026. More on that in what Anki costs.
The bigger bill is time. Anki’s manual expects about 200 reviews a day once you’re adding 20 new cards a day. A 5,000-word deck at that rate takes 250 days to introduce, so you’re signing up for 8 months of daily sessions before you’ve met the last word.
The manual also puts shared decks alongside other learning: for a complex subject, “shared decks should be used as a supplement to external material”. Portuguese is a complex subject.
That outside material is where Verbamor comes in. It’s an iPhone and iPad app that takes words from a lesson you record or a phrase you look up and turns them into fill-in-the-blank cards, using the sentence you met them in, with an image and native-accent audio. FSRS, an open-source scheduler that predicts when you’re about to forget a card, decides when each one returns. There’s a starter deck of roughly 650 common words as well.
It’s $19.99 a month, or $129.99 a year with a 7-day trial that only the yearly plan has. Those are US prices, and the App Store may charge a different amount in your country.
One concession. If you’re happy to type in your own cards, free Anki on a laptop does the job for $0, and it’ll do it for years. My app is for the people who wanted that habit and never kept it.

What I could not verify
- Download counts. AnkiWeb doesn’t publish them.
- The accent on decks whose pages don’t say. I didn’t listen through 9,958 files to find out.
- The price of the full deck behind the two 22-note samples. The shop page they link to isn’t on AnkiWeb, and I didn’t follow it.
