Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 8, 2026
This policy explains how STIQ Digital ("STIQ Digital," "we," "us") collects, uses, and shares information when you use the Verbamor app and website (the "Service"). Verbamor is built around your lesson content (recordings, notes, and the flashcards made from them), so we want to be clear about exactly what happens to that data. Questions? Email colinnevistaylor@gmail.com.
1. Information we collect
Content you provide
- Lesson audio recordings you capture in the app, which will typically include your voice and your tutor's voice;
- Notes, text, and translations you paste, type, or generate;
- Flashcards and study data derived from that content: decks, review history, scheduling, and mastery statistics;
- Learning settings such as target language, level, and goals.
Account information
If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive your name (or Apple's private relay identifier), email address, and an authentication token. We never see your Apple or Google password. You can also use the app without an account, in which case your data is tied to an anonymous device identifier.
Collected automatically
- Device and app data: device model, OS version, app version, language, time zone, and general (city-level) location inferred from IP address;
- Usage data: screens viewed, features used, review sessions, and similar product events;
- Crash and diagnostic data: crash logs and performance metrics;
- Attribution data: which ad or campaign brought you to the app, via mobile attribution partners.
Purchases
Subscriptions are processed by Apple or Google. We receive subscription status (active, trial, cancelled) and anonymized transaction identifiers, never your payment card details.
2. How we use your information
- To run the Service: transcribe your recordings, extract vocabulary, build flashcards, generate pronunciation audio and card imagery, sync your decks across devices, and schedule your reviews;
- To maintain and improve the app: debug crashes, understand which features are used, and develop new functionality;
- To communicate with you: service messages (always) and marketing emails about new features (only with an unsubscribe link in every message, see Section 7);
- To measure marketing: understand which campaigns bring in users;
- To protect the Service: prevent fraud, abuse, and security incidents, and comply with law.
We do not sell your lesson content, and we do not use your recordings, notes, or flashcards to train our own or third-party AI models. Content sent to our AI providers is processed under agreements that prohibit them from training on it.
3. Where your data lives
Your content is stored in the cloud on our servers (hosted in the United States) so your decks sync across devices and survive a lost phone. Recordings are stored until you delete them or your account. You can delete individual recordings, cards, or decks in the app at any time.
4. AI processing
Verbamor's core features are powered by third-party AI providers acting as our processors. Depending on the feature, your content may be sent to:
- Anthropic: understanding lesson content and generating flashcards;
- OpenAI: transcription and card generation;
- Google: translation and language processing;
- ElevenLabs: text-to-speech pronunciation audio.
These providers process your content only to deliver the requested feature, under contracts restricting further use. The specific providers may change; this policy will be updated when they do.
5. Recordings of other people
Lesson recordings usually capture your tutor's voice. You are responsible for obtaining any consent required by law before recording. If you are a tutor whose voice appears in a user's recording and you want it removed, contact us at colinnevistaylor@gmail.com and we will work with you and the account holder to address it.
6. Sharing your information
We share data only with:
- AI providers listed in Section 4, to power app features;
- Infrastructure providers: cloud hosting, storage, and authentication (including Apple and Google sign-in);
- Analytics and diagnostics providers: product analytics (e.g. Mixpanel/Amplitude-class tools), crash reporting (e.g. Sentry/Crashlytics-class tools), and ad-attribution partners. These receive device, usage, and attribution data, not your recordings, notes, or flashcards;
- Legal recipients: when required by law, to protect rights and safety, or as part of a merger, acquisition, or asset sale (in which case this policy continues to apply to your data and we will notify you of any change in ownership).
We do not sell your personal information for money. Sharing device-level data with ad-attribution partners may qualify as a "sale" or "share" under some US state laws; Section 9 explains how to opt out.
7. Marketing emails
If we have your email address, we may send occasional emails about new features and tips. Every marketing email includes an unsubscribe link, and opting out never affects service emails (receipts, security notices, policy changes).
8. Data retention and deletion
- Your content and account data are kept while your account is active.
- You can delete individual items (recordings, cards, decks) in the app at any time.
- When you delete your account (Settings → Delete account) or email us a deletion request, your content and personal data are deleted from our systems within 90 days, except where we must retain limited records for legal, security, or accounting purposes.
- Anonymous-mode data lives on your device and is removed when you delete the app.
9. Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live (including under US state privacy laws such as the CCPA/CPRA, and the GDPR if you use the app from the EEA or UK), you may have the right to:
- Access a copy of your personal data;
- Correct inaccurate data;
- Delete your data;
- Port your data in a usable format;
- Opt out of targeted advertising or the "sale"/"sharing" of personal information;
- Not be discriminated against for exercising these rights.
Exercise these rights in the app (export and deletion) or by emailing colinnevistaylor@gmail.com. We respond within the time required by applicable law and may need to verify your identity first. You can also limit ad tracking at the OS level: on iOS, decline the App Tracking Transparency prompt or enable Settings → Privacy → Tracking restrictions; on Android, delete or reset your advertising ID.
If you are in the EEA or UK, our legal bases are: performance of our contract with you (running the Service), legitimate interests (analytics, security, improvement), and consent (marketing, ad tracking). You may lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.
10. Security
We protect your data with encryption in transit, encrypted storage, access controls, and vendor agreements. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects your personal data, we will notify you and regulators as required by law.
11. Children
Verbamor is not directed at children under 13 (or under 16 where local law sets a higher threshold), and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.
12. International users
We are based in the United States and process data there. If you use the Service from elsewhere, your data is transferred to the US, which may have different data-protection laws than your country. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for such transfers.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the Service evolves. For material changes we will notify you in the app or by email before they take effect, and update the date above.
