Thank you in Spanish
“Thank you” in Spanish is gracias, pronounced /ˈɡɾa.sjas/. It's an interjection, so it has no gender.
In a sentence
La niña le da las gracias a su mamá por el regalo.
The girl thanks her mother for the gift.
Grammar note
To thank someone for something, add por: gracias por el regalo. Dar las gracias means to say thank you, as in the sentence above. Muchas gracias is thank you very much.
In most of Spain the z, or c before e or i, is said like the th in think: /ˈɡɾa.θjas/.
How to remember it
Gracias comes from the Latin gratia, which also gave English grace and gratitude. Saying grace before a meal is a thank-you too.
