Grammar note
The accent on the ú marks the stress: NÚ-me-ro. Without it, numero is a different word, a form of the verb numerar (I number). Plural: los números.
How to remember it
Número sits next to the English numeral and numerous, which come from the same Latin word, numerus. On forms you'll often see it shortened to n.º or núm.
